BNZ Account Type

The Bank of New Zealand (BNZ) offers various account types tailored to meet different customer needs. The primary account types include:

  • You Money Everyday Spending Account
    • Unlimited withdrawals and transactions.
    • No monthly account fee.
    • Ability to open up to 25 accounts.
    • Options available for kids, students, graduates, and apprentices.
    • Includes a Flexi Visa debit card.
    • Rapid Save Account
      • Earns 0.70% p.a. interest with no minimum balance.
      • One free withdrawal per month.

      In addition to these personal accounts, BNZ also provides non-personal accounts for businesses, partnerships, and trusts, which require additional documentation and verification processes.

      BNZ Broker Account Opening Process

      To open a BNZ account, follow these steps based on your eligibility and the type of identification you possess:

      If You Have a Registered RealMe Account:

      • Visit the BNZ website.
      • Click on the “Open an Account” button for either You Money or Rapid Save accounts.
      • Answer the initial qualifying prompts.
      • Connect and verify your identity through your RealMe ID verification.
      • Verify your address.
      • Complete the online application.
      • If You Have a New Zealand Passport:

        • Answer the qualifying prompts on the BNZ website.
        • Choose the “New Zealand Passport” under the verification prompt.
        • Provide screenshots of your passport through the online portal.
        • Receive an email with a unique code.
        • Bring the unique code and your passport to a local BNZ branch.
        • If You Have Another Type of ID Document:

          • Bring your foreign passport or other forms of ID along with proof of New Zealand address to a local branch to open an account.
          • Additional Information:

            • You can also start an application by calling 0800 275 269 and then take your ID documents and proof of address to a local branch.
            • For joint accounts, an appointment must be made to visit a local branch with all supporting documentation for both parties.
