Zerodha offers several types of accounts tailored to meet the diverse needs of its clients. The primary account types include:
Equity & Derivatives Account: This account allows trading in stocks, futures, and options on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). There are no annual maintenance charges for this account.
Demat Account: Required to hold shares in electronic form, this account is necessary for taking delivery of stocks. The annual maintenance charge (AMC) for a demat account at Zerodha is ₹300.
Commodity Trading Account: This account enables trading in commodities on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) and does not incur annual maintenance charges.
NRI Account: Specifically designed for Non-Resident Indians, this account type requires different documentation and processes compared to resident accounts.
Margin Account: This account allows clients to trade with leverage, enabling them to take larger positions than their account balance would typically allow.
Opening an account with Zerodha is a straightforward process. Here are the steps to follow:
Visit the Zerodha Website: Go to Zerodha's official website and click on the “Open an Account” button.
Fill in Basic Details: Enter your mobile number and verify it with the OTP. Then, provide your email address and create a password.
Complete Personal Details: Enter your full name, date of birth, PAN card number, and Aadhaar number. You can also choose a nominee for your account.
Upload Documents: Upload scanned copies of your PAN card, passport-sized photograph, proof of address (Aadhaar card, utility bill, etc.), and a cancelled cheque or bank statement for verification.
Income Proof: If you wish to trade in futures and options, you may need to submit income proof, such as a salary slip or income tax return acknowledgment.
E-KYC Verification: Complete the biometric authentication process using your Aadhaar number.
Account Opening Charges: Pay the account opening charges via UPI or net banking. The charges are ₹200 for a trading and demat account.
Account Activation: Once your documents are verified, Zerodha will activate your demat and trading account, typically within 2-3 working days.
