The primary account type is the E-Trading Account, which allows access to various financial instruments, including equities, bonds, derivatives, ETFs, mutual funds, and structured products. Investors can trade on multiple stock exchanges, such as the Swiss Stock Exchange (SWX), Euronext, Frankfurt, Xetra, London Stock Exchange (LSE), NYSE, and NASDAQ. However, to open an E-Trading Account, you must first hold a PostFinance bank account.

PostFinance Broker Account Opening Process

To open a broker account with PostFinance, follow these steps:

  • Open a Bank Account:
    • You must first become a customer of PostFinance by opening a bank account.
    • This requires being a Swiss resident aged 18 or older and not being a U.S. citizen.
    • Request E-Finance Access:
      • After opening a bank account, you will need to request access to E-Finance, which is necessary for trading.
      • Open the E-Trading Account:
        • Once you have E-Finance access, you can request to open an E-Trading Account.

        Conditions to Open an Account:

        • Must have a PostFinance bank account.
        • Must be a Swiss resident.
        • Must be at least 18 years old.
        • Cannot be a U.S. citizen.

        Additional Information:

        • The E-Trading platform is based on the Swissquote platform.
        • The custody fee is CHF 72 per year, which can be offset against trading fees if they exceed this amount.
        • Inactivity fees are CHF 0, making it easier for passive investors to maintain their accounts without incurring charges.
