  • General Account (一般口座):
    • Least regulated type of account.
    • Provides access to a broad range of financial products.
    • Investors are responsible for all tax calculations and declarations related to capital gains.
    • Designated Account (特定口座):
      • More regulated and automates tax calculations.
      • There are two sub-types:
      • No-Withholding Account (源泉徴収なし): Brokerage calculates annual taxable gains/losses and provides a transaction report, but the account holder must declare gains.
      • Withholding Account (源泉徴収あり): Brokerage calculates gains/losses and withholds tax at the time of each taxable event, eliminating the need for the account holder to declare income.

        

      Shikoku Broker Account Opening Process

        Opening a broker account with Shikoku involves the following steps:

      •   Choose Account Type: Decide between a General Account or a Designated Account based on your investment strategy and tax preferences.

      •   Complete Application: Fill out the application form online. If you are a non-Japanese citizen, you may need to complete a paper application due to KYC (Know Your Customer) regulations.

      •   Submit KYC Documents: Provide necessary identification documents, such as a photo ID and your My Number card, to verify your identity.

      •   Account Approval: Wait for the brokerage to process your application. This may take some time depending on the completeness of your submission.

      •   Fund Your Account: Once approved, deposit funds into your Shikoku account to begin trading.

      •   Start Trading: Access various financial instruments including forex, CFDs, commodities, and indices available on the Shikoku platform.
