The CIPC is the official South African government agency responsible for the registration and regulation of companies, non-profit organizations, cooperatives, and intellectual property rights. It operates under the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC) and was established on 1 May 2011, following the enactment of the Companies Act 71 of 2008.
