London Liquidity Does Not Make Every Limit Equal

London's enormous FX turnover improves the backdrop for many orders, but it does not make every currency pair, time or retail limit equally liquid. A limit placed in the London–New York overlap faces a different order environment from the same instruction near the weekly close.

The Bank of England's April 2026 survey recorded average daily UK FX turnover of $4.609 trillion. Spot accounted for $1.253 trillion and swaps $2.172 trillion. BIS estimated global daily turnover at $9.5 trillion in April 2025. These figures establish scale, not an individual fill guarantee.

A EUR/USD limit during active hours may have more competing flow than a thin cross near rollover, yet size and news still matter. Reuters reported sharp oil-driven moves and a stronger dollar on September 14. When macro information changes, even a large market can move away from a resting order or fill it amid adverse selection.

Retail OTC traders also face dealer-specific pricing. The CFTC says the dealer controls the platform and offered prices. Ask how the provider sources quotes, handles partial fills and reports price improvement. Do not use a trillion-dollar headline as a substitute.

The September 13 weekly outlook supplies timely session and event context. Official surveys provide the scale figures.

The conclusion joins the macro and micro views. Market turnover tells where activity is concentrated. Only the symbol, timestamp, order size and broker record tell whether one limit had a realistic chance of filling.
