“Zero spread” does not mean zero trading cost. A raw-price account can replace part of the visible bid-ask spread with commission, financing, slippage or minimum-volume requirements, so the only useful comparison is the all-in cost for the trader's actual holding period.
Google's current AI Overview structures the question around two models: spread-only pricing and raw spread plus commission. That is a useful starting framework, but its indicative spread ranges are not treated here as verified market facts. Broker prices vary by account, instrument, time, size and jurisdiction.
The regulatory evidence is clearer. NFA disclosure guidance says that when a fee is based on the difference between bid and asked prices in retail forex, the document should explain how it is calculated. FCA rules require prominent loss-rate warnings for leveraged rolling spot forex and CFDs, while FCA materials stress that these products are high risk and must be marketed appropriately.
Build an all-in cost ledger

For a short-lived EUR/USD trade, commission and spread may dominate. For a position held several days, financing can outweigh the entry spread. For a fast news trade, slippage can matter more than the advertised minimum spread. The cheapest account therefore depends on the strategy rather than one marketing number.
A fair broker comparison
Run the same trade definition across providers: same pair, notional size, session and holding period. Use median observed spreads, not only the lowest displayed value. Add both sides of commission and the applicable financing. Then check whether the legal entity and account protections are comparable.
This returns to the core conclusion. A zero label describes one component at a particular moment. It does not settle the cost question. Only a complete ledger can do that.
