Check the Forex Dealer Before You Fund It

The most important forex trade can be the one you refuse to fund: a platform, app-store listing or social account is not proof that a dealer is authorised. The verification should happen before a deposit, because a perfect strategy cannot protect money sent to the wrong legal entity.

The CFTC says retail off-exchange forex customers connect to a dealer rather than a registered exchange. The dealer controls the prices and spreads shown on its platform. The regulator lists common warning signs including unusually high leverage, crypto-only payments, no verifiable physical address and pressure to move a conversation to a private messaging app.

The FCA adds another important risk: clone firms copy the name and registration number of authorised businesses, then replace the website, phone number or bank details. A familiar brand name is therefore not enough.

The verification chain

Do not begin with a review site and work backwards. Begin with the regulator, follow the approved domain, and then compare costs. Search advertisements and X posts can help identify brands people are discussing, but neither source establishes authorisation.

What to do with comments and videos

User comments are useful for discovering questions: withdrawal delays, spread changes, verification requests or platform outages. They are not enough to establish prevalence or cause. Record a comment as an attributed claim only when the account, date and original post can be verified, and look for a documented company response.
