Retail Forex Quotes Belong to the Dealer

A retail forex quote is not a consolidated exchange price: in an over-the-counter account, the dealer controls the bid, ask and platform conditions offered to the customer. That fact does not make every price unfair, but it makes independent verification and regulatory status essential before money is deposited.

The CFTC explains that a retail customer using an electronic forex platform is not connecting to a live central exchange. The dealer is the counterparty and controls the price information displayed on its platform. Customers are therefore limited to the prices and conditions that dealer offers when they open or close a position.

This structure explains why two legitimate providers can show slightly different quotes. They may use different liquidity sources, mark-ups, risk controls and aggregation rules. A difference becomes a compliance or quality concern only after the comparison accounts for timestamp, product, account type, trade size and financing terms.

A quote-verification checklist

Check Evidence to retain Question answered
Legal entity Regulator register entry Who holds the account?
Approved website Domain from the register Is this a clone site?
Two-way quote Timestamped bid and ask What price was offered?
Execution record Order, fill and rejection logs What actually happened?
Full cost Spread, commission and financing What did the trade cost?

Do not compare a dealer's executable ask with a news site's delayed midpoint and call the difference manipulation. First compare like with like. If the discrepancy persists, request the firm's execution policy and complaint process. In the United States, verify registration through the CFTC and NFA. In the UK, check the FCA register and confirm that the domain matches the authorised firm.

Why social proof is not enough

X posts, YouTube comments and app-store reviews can surface recurring questions about withdrawals or fills. They cannot establish the cause or frequency of a problem without account records and a verifiable legal entity. A screenshot without the bid, ask, server time and order ticket is incomplete evidence.

The correct conclusion returns to the opening point: because the dealer owns the customer quote, the customer must own the verification process. Price comparison, documentation and registration checks are part of execution risk management, not administrative extras.

This bid-and-ask explainer covers the basic mechanics. It is older and presented in Hindi, so it is included only as educational context; current regulatory statements control the factual claims.
